Pentecost

“On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.”  Acts 2:1-4 NLT

Pentecost Sunday is on May 19 this year. The definition of Pentecost is “Fiftieth”.

“16 John answered all of them by saying, “I baptize you with water, but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”  Luke 3:16 NRSV

In Loving Memory of Vera

Vera Ann Wahl, age 90, of Pine River, passed away April 22, 2024, with her loving family by her side.

Vera was born March 8, 1934, in Pequot Lakes, MN, to Harry and Margaret (Reiter) Olson, delivered by her midwife grandmother, Anna Christopherson. She attended Pine River High School and graduated in 1953. On May 8, 1954, Vera married LaVerne Wahl and they had two daughters, Cheryl and Debra. Vera was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pine River. She was active with church life, including teaching Sunday school, women’s groups, and being the church treasurer.

Vera lived a wonderful life growing up, living the majority of her life in the Jenkins – Pine River area. She loved family gatherings with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards with friends, decorating for the holidays, her flower gardens, and vacationing with her husband, LaVerne.

A celebration of life was held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 27, at the Pine River United Methodist Church and was officiated by Pastor Jen Matthees.  Music was provided by Jacki Kline.   A luncheon followed the service and her burial at the cemetery in Jenkins after the luncheon.

She will be missed by all of us at the United Methodist Church in Pine River who knew and loved her.

Thank you to Meribeth, Norma, Debbie, Josie, Heather and Mary who worked so hard preparing and serving the Luncheon on April 27 for Vera’s funeral.

SCRIPTURES

Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV

The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Galatians 4:6 NLT

“And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

 Colossians 4:2 ESV

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”
