Crosslake Senior Expo
If you have yet to attend the Crosslake Senior Expo held yearly in late April at the Log Cabin Church, plan for it next year. The event is so worth your time; it is well organized, easy to traverse, easy to park, has great prizes, and had almost fifty informational booths this year. The booths include everything from medical information to DNR and water safety; orthopedic care to railroad museums; and the booth attendants are helpful and attentive. This year the Expo included two mini sessions: one about staying in your home as you age, and another about arthritis. There is always a keynote speaker to conclude the morning. Mike Max, WCCO sports director (a small part of his resume), spoke this year. He shared that a great many of his family live in the Pequot/Brainerd area. His speech was titled “Never Quit Living Your Best Life (just because there is a number next to your name)”. His energy and optimism about life is uplifting. My favorite: “We know there is life after death; so let’s take care of life before death.” He encourages people to be busy, but to be busy doing what we enjoy and to connect to the world around us because the end is closer than the beginning!
Senior Series April 15
Big Harvests in Small Places!
Our 2nd Senior Series this April was a grand
success! Shelly Boser-Bartel, the Retail Sales
Manager at Landsburg Nursery in Baxter, talked
to us about growing herbs and veggies in pots.
Growing in containers is easy and fun! She
provided tried and true info on how to avoid
common mistakes such as plant your herbs in
separate pots to reduce competition and
provide the correct light and water. Clay pots
are best. Wait for the ground temp to increase
before planting seeds or sets such as potatoes.
She told us last year she planted a row of
potatoes early and then a 2nd row about 3 weeks
later. Both rows were ready to dig at the same
time. Increased ground temp jump started the
2nd row.
We thoroughly enjoyed the program and asked
many questions.
Next month, Dr Sophia Fox will talk about her
Naturopathic Medical Practice in Brainerd. It
will be another interesting program so mark
your calendars for May 20, 2026 from 1- 3 p.m.

Christ in You
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
John 16:7 NKJV
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20 NKJV
. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, Romans 8:14-16 NKJV
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27 NKJV
Dementia Friend Minnesota:
Dementia Friends is a global movement that is changing the way people think, act and talk about dementia. It was developed by the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom, and the Dementia Friends, initiative is
underway in Minnesota and across the United States. By helping everyone in a community understand what dementia is and how it affects families, each of us can make a difference for people touched by dementia.
You don’t need to be a dementia expert or need to know someone with dementia to become a Dementia Friend.
To learn more, Grace United Methodist Church in Pequot Lakes, is having a session on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. RSVP to cristina.rodriguez@vivie.org or call 320-460-7226
Visit www.actonalz.org/dementia-friends to learn more about becoming a Dementia Friend.

HOPE
32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. 36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. Matthew 24:32-36 NKJV
